Hello! I’m Jennifer
Licensed Professional Counselor and
Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor
After graduating from Michigan State University with a B.A. in Journalism – Go Spartans! – I worked in marketing and communications. After my two children were born, I focused on freelance writing for various publications, mostly focusing on military spouses and military family issues.
When I was 39, I went back to school for my M.A. in Counseling from the University of Texas – San Antonio. I worked for a variety of agencies, including a 24-hour crisis and detox center. I then decided to jump into the private practice world, and enjoyed my private-pay practice for more than five years. I am currently working in corporate America as a Mental Health Clinical Trainer and doing some freelance writing on the side.
I continue to live in San Antonio, Texas, and in my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, running, and obsessing about my Boston Terrier, Kermit.

Blog Post: Why I Hate the Phrase “Get Over It”
The woman looked at me with tears streaming down her face. “I know I should be over this already,” she said. “But I’m getting worse.” This particular woman had lost her healthy husband of 40+ years suddenly in an accident. About six months had passed when we spoke. We...
Blog Post: Productive or Destructive?
Recently I had a client facing a tough weekend situation – a family reunion of sorts, and he had no idea what the outcome would be after the visit. Of course, he knew what HE wanted the outcome to be……a reconciliation…….but had zero clue which way it would fall out....
Blog Post: Now
I want to switch jobs, but... I 'm not satisfied with my relationship, but it's okay for now. There's never a good time to start my own business. Maybe in a few years. Once the kids get older, we'll travel. We'll save more money once we x, y and z. As a counselor, I...
Blog Post: Listening
I used to run a life skills group at an alternative high school for 10 at-risk boys. These boys were products of broken homes and expelled from their regular schools due to various run-ins with the law. Many of these boys were one adjudication away from being locked...
